Newpark earned a memorable first victory in the All-Ireland pool stages for several years on the tournament’s opening day, defeating Campbell College 3–1 at Cookstown High School. After heavy morning rain, the weather eased by the 3.30 p.m. start, and Newpark immediately took control. Leo Marnell opened the scoring with a quick goal from open play, before Sam O’Sullivan doubled the advantage following a swift one-two with David Rankin.
Newpark maintained their lead at half-time and continued to combine disciplined defending with incisive attacking play. Ryan McFadden then added a third with a poacher’s finish from close range after a crash ball into the circle. Excellent saves from Finn Harty kept Campbell at bay despite several promising passages of play from the opposition. Campbell eventually scored a consolation goal from a short corner in the final minute, but Newpark’s composed and determined performance secured an impressive 3–1 victory and marked an important opening-day result.
