The Chaplain at Newpark is Ms. Amy Keating. Ms. Keating is the spiritual presence in the school and is present to support and encourage the whole school community; students, staff and parents, journeying with them in their time at Newpark.
The Chaplain aims to promote the wellbeing and personal development of all within the community. She is there as a listening ear in times of sadness, bereavement, stress, joy or excitement. If a student or staff member needs special support, the Chaplain may refer them to a counsellor, or other outside agency.
Ms. Keating meets all 1st Year students on a one-to-one basis, starting in mid-September and finishing up in March or April each academic year. This is a short, informal “Chat with the Chaplain” and its aim is to get to know each student a little better and see how they are getting on in secondary school so far. She also meets new students from 2nd-6th Year.
The Chaplain works as part of the Student Support Team, made up of guidance counsellors, nurses, a representative from the AEN Department and Deputy Principals. The SST meets weekly and offers pastoral care for students and promotes general wellbeing in the school.
The Chaplain organises the annual Carol Service, in partnership with the Music Department, takes part in assemblies, runs a “Monthly Mindful Meeting” for parents and staff in the Meditation Room on campus, plans the 6th Year Graduation Ceremony, with the help and input from 6th Year students and is a member of the Staff Welfare Committee. She also coordinates fundraising events and maintains links with the local parish, as well as other faith communities in the area. She is on campus throughout the month of June, when the State Exams are taking place, offering support to those who may need it.
Ms. Keating’s office is located on the top floor, opposite T1. She is available to students and staff to chat about the “big questions” in life, as well as the little ones.
