Climate Protest – Parents/Guardians

As you may be aware, on Friday 20th September 2019, a climate strike is being called worldwide and school students in Dublin are being asked to take direct action by joining a march and rally from the Custom House to Merrion Square between 12pm and 2pm.  Attending this rally is entirely a decision for students and their parents/guardians.

  • If you consent to your daughter/son leaving school at 10.50am (the end of period 3) to attend this protest, please let us know by means of a note in the journal by Wednesday September 18th. We ask you to do this in order for us to ensure that students are safely accounted for without impeding their right to protest.
  • You will be informed in the usual way, and in line with school policy, if your son/daughter leaves school early without your permission/notification.

Everyone knows that Newpark is a climate conscious school and that as a school community we are supportive of the issues that students worldwide are seeking to highlight. It is because this is an opportunity for students to learn how to effectively protest for change that classes will continue as normal on Friday 20th September.
